Chennai: Family ends life over loss in share market

The lodge management sought the help of Perambur police who forced open the room to find the trio dead.

Chennai: Bodies of a 48-year-old woman, her 43-year-old brother and her 24-year-old-daughter were found in a highly decomposed stage, in a private lodge on Tiruvenkatam street, Perambur, on Saturday night.

Police said A. Sharmila, (48), Kamalanathan, (43), and Johanna, (24), residents of KKR Garden, Madhavaram, had reportedly consumed poison. The trio checked in three days ago, and foul stench began emanating from their room since Saturday morning.

The lodge management sought the help of Perambur police who forced open the room to find the trio dead. Used syringes with some used drug bottles were found from the locked room.

Preliminary investigations suggested the family had lost about Rs 8 crore in the stock market. Sharmila’s husband Abraham died in the fag end of 2015 and the family had been disposing properties to make both ends meet. All three bodies were moved to GH for postmortem.
