Chennai: The Madras high court vacated on Wednesday the interim stay on the release of the Tamil film “Kaali”, starring Vijay Antony, on the condition that the
producer and actor deposit an amount of Rs 2 crore to the credit of the civil suit pending before the high court.
A division bench comprising Justices R.Subbiah and Audikesavalu vacated the interim stay on an appeal filed by the producer and actor Vijay Antony on the condition that he furnish a bank guarantee for a sum of Rs 2 crore in the name of the Registrar General of the Madras high court towards the account of the civil suit which is pending.
On an application arising out of a suit filed by William Alexander, proprietor of Picture Box Company against Fathima Vijay Antony, proprietor of Vijay Antony pictures, Justice C.V.Karthikeyan had, on April 6, stayed the release of “Kaali”, which was scheduled to be released on April 13.
According to Alexander, he was the distributor of Antony’s film “Annadurai” released in 2017 for Tamil Nadu.
The actor claiming that the film “Annadurai” had come out very well, sold the distribution rights at a higher price but managed not to show a preview of the film before its release.
Though the film received moderate collections initially, within a week,
theatre owners dumped the film and screened other films due to a poor box office.
When he brought to the knowledge of Antony the loss incurred by him, Antony allegedly promised to give the distribution rights of “Kaali” at a lesser price to him.
An agreement to this effect was signed subsequently and Alexander paid a sum of Rs 50 lakh as advance. Since Antony failed to keep his promise, Alexander filed the present suit to compensate his loss to the tune of Rs 4.73 crore.
Adani to build UAV plant in Hyderabad
Adani group has tied up with Israeli defence manufacturer Elbit System to set up an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle plant in Hyderabad.
The Adani group had entered into the defence and aerospace sector three years ago is vying for orders from the armed forces to build unmanned aerial vehicles by the tie-up.
“The plant will have 40 percent indigenization and will be in operation from January 2019. Initially, we will start with four units per year but soon it will expand to 12 units per year. Under the first phase, the investment will be USD 15 million but it will increase to 100 million,” Ashish Rajvanshi, head, defence and aerospace, Adani, said.
He also added that the Adani is planning to manufacture Naval utility Helicopter and Naval Multi-role Helicopter (NMRH). The project is in the initial stage.
