Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered notice to the inspector of police, Mangadu, on an appeal filed by S.Daswant, a techie, which challenged an order of a trial court, convicting and sentencing him to death for the sexual assault and murder of a 7-year-old girl in Mugalivakkam in February, 2017.

A division bench comprising Justices S.Vimala and S.Ramathilagam posted after four weeks, further hearing of the appeal filed by Daswant.

Prosecution case was that Daswant, who stayed close to the child’s family in Mugalivakkam, lured her into his house and sexually assaulted her. He allegedly suffocated her when she tried to scream for help. He had stuffed the body in a travel bag after the murder and dumped it in an isolated place near the southern suburb of Anakaputhur.

Later, he returned to the place and burned the body beyond recognition. The Mangadu police registered a case against Dashvant under various provisions of Pocso Act and IPC.
