Hyderabad: The story of Petla Narsimhulu, a physically-challenged youth from an economically weak background in Siricilla, who made it to become a junior research fellow for PhD is inspiring.
The boy from interior Telangana state, with an urge to pursue higher education, knocked on the doors of minister K.T. Rama Rao who got him admission in a degree college. The boy studied well, and is now a PhD scholar. His tale was shared by the minister on his personal Twitter account.
Mr Narsimhulu was affected by polio on his left leg at a very young age because of which he was not in a position to stand properly and had difficulty in walking. His parents could not afford to educate him. Their dilapidated house in Mustabad mandal collapsed, and the family was forced to stay in a makeshift hut.
Mr Narasimhulu met Mr KTR during a gram sabha meeting in a village adopted by him. Mr Narasimhulu sought help and when Mr KTR asked Vennela Degree and Junior College principal S.V.C. Prakash to help him.
The principal told Deccan Chronicle: “Highly determined, Narsimhulu could not make it to the police-constable training due to his ailment. Despite the health complications he is facing, he worked hard and cracked the UGC NET and qualified for junior Research Fellowship (JRF), which is an achievement in itself. He is also trained in computer applications. After he completes his fellowship, Mr Narsimhulu will qualify to be an assistant professor.”
Mr Narsimhulu had, at one time, feared that he would end up as an attender but fate had elevated him to the status of a professor, the principal said. KTR has also promised to a build a two-bedroom house for Mr Narsimhulu.
