Chennai: Police sub-inspector Ilayaraja, attached to the Mylapore police station, suffered injuries while catching a history-sheeter and a close aide of rowdy ‘CD’ Mani, on Saturday night. The incident happened when a team of Mylapore law and order police went to Palla Kumar Nagar near Mylapore railway station to catch history-sheeter Dokkan Raja (45).

Raja had been absconding for more than 4 years and is a close aide of famous rowdy ‘CD’ Mani. We got a tip-off about his visits to the locality and went to arrest him with a police team. When his team was combing the area, SI Ilayaraja, who was on his two-wheeler, saw Raja fleeing in a two-wheeler, the police said.

“On seeing me, Raja tried to escape and I had no time to call for other police personnel. So I chased him in my two-wheeler until I rammed my bike on his near Anjaneya Temple in Alwarpet,” Ilayaraja told Deccan Chronicle.

Dokkan Raja had refused to surrender and tried to run. “When I fell from the bike, I suffered mild injuries. Although the onlookers hesitated to help me in subjugating Raja, a few youngsters came to my aid. Raja was secured and he will be produced before the judicial magistrate,” he added. Dokkan Raja has murder cases and other cases pending against him, the police said.

Mylapore police also arrested two other history-sheeters — ‘Kirukku’ Parthiban of Ayodhyakuppam and Vinoth of Triplicane on Saturday. They have cases of extortion, robbery and ganja peddling against them. They were remanded in judicial custody.
