KOZHIKODE: A second-year MDS student, hailing from Perambra in Kozhikode, is fighting for her life in a hospital in Bangalore after she was knocked down by a bike-borne MBBS student on the campus of Sri Siddhartha Dental College, Tumkur, Karnataka, on March 23.
The victim, Nileena Chandran, who suffered serious head injuries, is undergoing treatment in the M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Bangalore, and she is yet to regain consciousness.
The accused, Balusani Nagesh of Hyderabad, is still at large. The parents of Nileena have alleged that the police were scared to take action against him and that the investigation was not in the right direction.
Tumkur town police confirmed that a case had been registered against Balusani Nagesh for rash and negligent driving. Nagesh is a final-year MBBS student of Sri Siddhartha Medical College on the same campus where Nileena is studying. Tumkur town DSP Chidananda Swami said that he would find out why no arrest had been made so far.
According to Nileena’s father K.K. Chandran, the girl was travelling on her scooter from her hostel to the library on the day when Holi was being celebrated. Nagesh’s bike hit Nileena’s scooter and in the impact, the front portion of the scooter was torn off.
“Till this date, no police officers have visited our daughter and taken any statement from the relatives or her friends. The hospital authorities also have not informed the police about the accident. The investigation is not at all satisfactory, but our prime concern is to bring our daughter back to life,” Mr Chandran said.
Sri Siddhartha Dental College is affiliated to Sri Siddhartha deemed university. The parents fear that the eyewitnesses may not give the correct statement as they are dependent on the mercy of the college to clear the examinations.
