Waste dumped in Bellandur weir

Though the BBMP maintains that the spot would only be used as a transfer point, a lot of garbage goes into the lake.

Bengaluru: It seems that the BBMP has not learnt any lessons from the recent Bellandur fire incident. Local residents alleged that on Saturday morning BBMP trucks were unloading garbage at Varthur lake weir.

Though the BBMP maintains that the spot would only be used as a transfer point, a lot of garbage goes into the lake.

Elan Kulandaivelu, a resident of Whitefield said, "It happens often but on Saturday we noticed. BBMP says they will collect the garbage from the spot as it is being only used as a transfer point, garbage does enter into the lake."

When DC brought this to Mayor Sampath Raj’s notice, he assured that action will be taken against the contractor. “It may catch fire and one cannot use the weir as a transit point. This is unacceptable and action would be taken against the culprits,” he added.
