Karnataka: Now, Brahmins plan Parashuram Dala

Community disturbed over recent attacks on its maths and swamijis.

Bengaluru: In the wake of a perceived rise in the attacks on Brahmins in various forms, a section of Brahmin leaders are coming together to form Parashuram Dala in the next couple of months.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, All India Brahmin Federation national vice-president, Y.N. Sharma said, "The irony of being Brahmin in this country is that everyone looks at us in a most disrespectful manner, be it our maths or swamijis or our temples which come under severe attack from various communities. Brahmins have all along been a peace loving and contented community."

He wondered why people dared to humiliate the community’s swamjis for political or any other reason. "Even during the recent Udupi Chalo programme launched by various communities, they spoke ill about our swamijis and our community was targeted unnecessarily. Be it the Gokarna temple issue, Ramachandrapura Math issue or Vysaraja Mat, have occurred in the last couple of months, there is a systematic method being adopted to denigrate our community icons. Hence, we are planning to float an apolitical forum - Parashuram Dala - to educate Brahmin youth about various facets of our community and its culture. We also aim to preserve our culture," he explained adding the forum will be for peaceful purposes only.

The community is planning a soft launch of the association by organising a lecture - Religion and Constitution - by Sri Sri Yadugiri Yathiraja Narayana Ramnuja Jeeyar, of Sri Yadugiri Yathiraj Math on Nov. 12.

"Once this lecture is over, we plan to host 9th Vipra Maha Samavesha in Belagavi December where the community will make efforts to bring all tri-matasta Brahmin communities under a single umbrella and officially announce its future course of action.
