Thick smoke had engulfed the area causing panic among pilgrims. The fire had spread quickly due to the large quantities of ghee stored in the kitchen that further fuelled the flames.

TTD Executive Officer Dr D. Sambasiva Rao and Tirumala Joint Executive Officer K. Srinivasa Raju inspected the kitchen and directed the engineering staff to take measures to prevent such occurrences in future.
