V S Achuthanandan denies backing out of contest

Mr Achuthanandan was not happy with the party central leadership's plan.

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan said that he has not made any statement that he would not contest the Assembly elections if CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan was also in the fray. “The statement attributed to me in this effect is false,” he said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

A section of the media had reported that Mr Achuthanandan would apprise the central leadership that he would not contest in case Mr Vijayan was also allowed to contest.

The reports said that Mr Achuthanandan was not happy with the party central leadership's plan to allow both him and Mr Vijayan to contest the upcoming Assembly elexction.

"Those who are propagating this type of falsehood are doing so to defame the party. They are tools in the hands of enemies of the party," he said.
