CM provided poor with access to English education: Minister Venugopala Krishna

VIJAYAWADA: BC Welfare Minister Venugopala Krishna has said Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is the first leader who recognised 139 BC castes in AP.

“The chief minister is going to conduct a caste census to collect clear data about the Backward Classes that are treated as Backbone Classes by Jagan Reddy,” he said.

The YSRC Samajika Sadhikara bus yatra continued on Wednesday in three areas. The bus yatra in Palakollu, West Godavari district, received overwhelming support.

Minister Pinipe Viswarup highlighted one of the key steps that the chief minister took soon after he came to power, namely the distribution of pensions. “Senior citizens are now receiving a pension of Rs 2,750, which will increase to Rs 3,000 from January 2024,” he said.

The minister said that while Chandrababu Naidu provided pensions to 30 lakh people during his tenure, Jagan Reddy delivered pensions to 64 lakh persons. He lauded Jagananna for ensuring the repayment of DWCRA Women's loans in four installments.

He spoke of the appointment of five SC ministers by CM Jagan, while Chandrababu's did not appoint any ST minister during the TD’s five year term.

MP Nandigam Suresh spoke about the pivotal role that CM Jagan played in providing poor students with access to English education, improving farmers' conditions, enhancing the quality of schools, and enabling the aspirations of the underprivileged.

He criticised the alliance between Pawan Kalyan and Chandrababu Naidu and highlighted TD chief's alleged misappropriation of funds.

Minister Venugopala krishna alleged that TD chief Chandrababu Naidu deceived BCs all these years by treating them as vote banks. Instead, Jagan Mohan Reddy gave top priority to BCs and treated them as the Backbone Classes by offering them several posts in the AP cabinet, as also in nominated posts, party posts and in the general seats.

The minister said the CM has decided to conduct a caste census, which would help the BCs get more share in development and welfare based on their population ratio. BCs constitute 55 per cent of the state’s population, he averred.

AP legislative council chairman K Moshenraju and other leaders expressed their “unwavering” support to Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership.
