Rahul Gandhi to start poll talks

Mr. Gandhi will inaugurate the concluding rally of KPCC president V M Sudheeran's Jana Raksha Yatra.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be meeting senior Congress leaders on Tuesday night after the public rally on Shanghumugham beach. He will assess the damage the solar and bar scams have inflicted on the UDF Government.

After the KPCC executive meeting on Wednesday at 10 am and the DCC presidents and feeder organisations' meeting, Mr. Gandhi will go to Kochi to visit the Kalamaserry Kinfra Park’s Startup village and also meet the national executive of the NSU at Angamaly.

Mr. Gandhi will inaugurate the concluding rally of KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran’s Jana Raksha Yatra at Shanghumugham beach at 5:15 pm on Tuesday.

Deepak Babaria, AICC secretary in charge of the State, who has been camping in the State over the last few days has reportedly gathered information about the ground situation on the prevalent political scene in the State.

He has held talks with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Sudheeran and Home minister Ramesh Chennithala separately at the KPCC office today. Mukul Wasnik, AICC general secretary, will be arriving tonight in the capital city.

A senior vice president of the party told DC that Mr. Gandhi would be keen to initiate talks with party cadres to ensure that the UDF Government comes back to power.

“Discussions on seat sharing will not take place with Mr. Gandhi at this juncture. Right now the priority is to initiate talks with the allies on seat sharing. Only then talks within the Congress party will be initiated officially”, said a KPCC vice-president.

Meanwhile, a top AICC leader told DC that there should be a mechanism to see that corrective measures were taken by the KPCC leadership.

He was referring to reports that both the ‘I’ and ‘A’ factions were against each other ever since allegations surfaced against leaders belonging to the two groups in the solar and bar scams. A few months back, the AICC leadership had sent out strict warnings to leaders that factionalism would not be tolerated by them and that had resulted in some respite in the internal squabbles within the party.
