Tearful adieu to army soldier Ganga Prasad

Nizamabad: Family members of soldier Neeradi Ganga Prasad, 32, who died in a flash flood in Sikkim, held his last rites at Kummanpally village of Salura mandal on Sunday, amid the presence of friends, villagers and Army personnel.

Ganga Prasad was swept away in a flash flood of Teesta River in Sikkim and his body recovered from the West Bengal border. Army officials brought the body to Bodhan town, from where his last journey was held, to the village.

The Army vehicle carrying his mortal remains was cavalcaded by youths on bikes, waving the National Flag. The soldier’s remains were laid to rest with a guard of honour.

District collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu and police commissioner V. Satyanarayana paid rich tributes to Lance Naik Ganga Prasad.

Ganga Prasad is survived by his wife Neeradi Sirisha, children and parents.

Additional DCP Jayaram, district sainik welfare officer Ramesh, Bodhan RDO Raja Goud and elected representatives were also present.
