20, 000 govt school students to take Neet, JEE coaching

New features include learning through mobile apps.

Chennai: Nearly 20,000 students from government and government-aided schools are selected for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Neet), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) coaching this year scheduled to commence from Saturday.

Of the 17,000 students, more than 5,000 plus-1 students also will take part in the coaching. The officials are hopeful that two-year coaching will be more helpful for students in cracking Neet.

Among the new features, the students will be provided with learning app through which they can watch all classes on mobile phones.

There are also planning to conduct regular online tests and OMR tests to prepare students for the entrance exams.

The school education department has introduced JEE coaching for higher secondary students from this year. So far, more than 3,000 students opted for the JEE coaching, sources said.

School education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan has announced that Neet coaching will start at all 412 centres established last year from Saturday.

“We have already prepared the study materials and the printing of the materials is going on. The students will be given these materials soon,” sources added.

Unlike last year, the department of school education has selected only interested and capable students for Neet coaching this year. The headmasters were tasked with conducting tests and selecting the students.

More than 70,000 students registered for Neet coaching last year. But, only 9,000 students participated in the weekend classes. To give focused coaching, the state government has selected interested and capable students for coaching.

“Last year, we only had three months to give coaching. Of 1331 students who have qualified in Neet from government, government-aided schools, 22 students joined MBBS course. This year there are more than 6 months to give coaching. We are hopeful that we can send more than 300 students from government schools to MBBS,” said Dr K.Vinayak Senthil, managing director, Speed Medical Institute.

Though the classes start from September 8 (Saturday), the online classes will start only from September 15. The school education department has entered an MoU with Speed Medical Institute to provide free Neet coaching for a period of three years.

“We have developed Speed Learned App. All the videos of online classes can be accessed through the app. Students can also write online exams and MCQ (multiple choice questions) tests for preparing Neet and JEE in the app,” he said adding that government school students are more motivated compared to other students.
