Bengaluru: Mayor Manjunath Reddy releases Rs 4 crore to fix drains

The Mayor and Transport Minister inspected some of the rain affected areas in city.

Bengaluru: Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday announced the release Rs 4 crore from the Mayor’s fund to widen major storm water drains in the city to arrest flooding.

Reddy, along with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, inspected some of the rain affected areas such as Madiwala, Vasantapura and Rajyotsavanagar. Storm water had entered into scores of houses and thrown normal life out of gear at areas like Rajyotsavanagar, and Sannappanagundi.

Residents of the area alleged that the storm water drain has been encroached upon resulting in overflowing of drains and flooding. Indiscriminate dumping of garbage into the drains and failure to desilt the drains have led to flooding of low lying areas, the residents said.

Expressing his displeasure over the poor quality of work and loss of life of a woman, he said that he would soon hold a meeting with BWSSB officials to ensure all the bad roads are fixed and made motorable.

Revealing lack of co-ordination between BBMP and BWSSB, Reddy said directed the BWSSB officials to fix the road soon after their work is over and assured to hold meeting with these officials on every Monday.
