Dalits Allege Social Boycott in Timmapur Village

Gajwel: Dalits from Timmapur village in Jagdevpur mandal of Gajwel Assembly constituency alleged that villagers have imposed a social boycott on them. Around 30 Dalit families have lodged complaints with the police.

Dalit Bahujan Front national secretary P. Shankar alleged that barbers in Timmapur village did not allow Dalits to cut hair in their shops.

The families urged police and revenue officials to inquire into the social boycott and render justice to them. They held some village elders responsible for this social ban. Gajwel is represented by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in the Assembly.

In a quick reaction, circle inspector Rajshekar Reddy held discussions with Timmapur locals to settle the issue. Dalit organisations warned that the social boycott should be lifted immediately otherwise they would launch an agitation across undivided Medak district.

TPCC senior vice-president Mallu Ravi said that Dalits are facing discrimination in the Chief Minister’s home constituency. He questioned why the state government has not responded to the social boycott issue so far.

Mallu Ravi demanded a high-level inquiry into the sordid social boycott issue in Timmapur village. He urged the SC Commission to visit the village and conduct an inquiry.
