Valued at ₹50,000 crore in India and Rs 2,500 Crore in Telangana

Hyderabad: The corrugated packaging industry is growing at a handsome pace in India due to the demand rising for consumer products and increasing e-commerce. Corrugated boxes are industrially prefabricated boxes, primarily used for packaging goods and materials.

The projected rate of growth in corrugated packaging is at 10 per cent, well above the GDP growth rate. The growth rate is expected to sustain for a few years, aided by strong macroeconomic conditions.

The market size stands at 10-11 million tonne per annum. The market size of the Indian Corrugated Industry is ₹50,000 crore per annum, said M.L. Agarwal, vice-chairman, International Corrugated Case Association (ICCA).

Speaking on the sidelines of a two-day industry event, Corrupack Summit-2023, organised by the Association of Corrugated Case of Telangana (ACCT) here on Friday, Agarwal said the capacity of the corrugated industry in the Telugu states was about five lakh tonne and valued at ₹2,500 crore. The industry in Telangana state is expected to grow at 15 per cent per annum, which is slightly higher than the national average.

The industry was facing challenges in the form of poor quality paper. Higher fibre content would mean greater strength, he said India is the largest importer of waste paper. The price of the paper is higher in India, Agarwal said.

The two-day event is a milestone for Telangana as arrangements for the International Corrugated Summit of ICCA, to be hosted here in January 2027, will be finalised. The ICCA Global Summit 2027 is the world’s biggest meeting of corrugated box manufacturers and is coming to India for the first time.
