Ayurvedic village at Chanchalguda prison

Hospital status soon for ayur facility in jail.

Hyderabad: An ‘Ayurvedic Village’ run by prisoners will be established on 20 acres at the Cherlapalli open air jail.

Following good profits from the existing prisoners-run Nature Cure Center ‘My Nation Ayurvedic Village’ at the prisons’ headquarters located inside Chanchalguda prison — it provides Rs 3 lakh revenue per month — the prisons authority is now planning to expand its services to all district jails.

The Ayurvedic Village in Chanchalguda prison started functioning last year and it is open to all. Four months back prisons’ DG V.K. Singh told DC that two Ayurvedic doctors are available round-the-clock at the nature cure centre along with assistants and three well-trained prisoners. “We are getting good response from the public as we are charging lesser than spa centres. Now, we have started ground works for establishing the largest nature cure centre at Cherlapalli open air jail,” he said.

About infrastructure, he said, “Earlier we depended on private firms to procure material for the nature cure centre. Now, we are manufacturing equipment including special tables for massage and dhara chikitsa at the Cherlapalli central prison.”

‘My Nation Ayurvedic Village’ in Chanchalguda, will get hospital status from Ayush soon. Mr Singh said that they had applied for hospital status last month. “The inpatient ward is being developed with 50 beds,” he said.

The Ayush team will visit the centre soon.
