Hyderabad: Ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, the BRS government is constructing community halls/function halls in Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Assembly constituency of Gajwel at a cost of anywhere between ₹3 crore and ₹15 crore each for Muslims, Christians, and Hindus, primarily Dalits, as well as Mudiraj and Vyshya communities.
While the CM's Assembly constituency Gajwel has become the first in the state to have government-built community halls/function halls with all amenities for major religions and castes, function halls are also being built in every major village in the constituency and are nearing completion. Rao will be inaugurating the function halls this month that anyone may use for free, as opposed to previously having to pay ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh to perform functions in private function halls.
Function halls costing ₹3 crore each were being built for the Mudiraj and Vyshya communities, while Ambedkar Bhavan and Ambedkar function halls were being constructed for the benefit of Dalits in the constituency, and a minorities complex costing Rs 3 crore was being constructed for minorities.
Gajwel has also earned the distinction of building community/functions in all major gram panchayats. Each function hall is being built at a cost of nearly ₹95 lakh. As many as 82 major villages are being covered under this scheme. The works have reached final stages and are ready for inauguration in the next three months.
Rao, who won from Gajwel for the first time in 2014 Assembly elections and became the first Chief Minister of Telangana state, retained his seat for second term in 2018 Assembly polls with a big majority. Rao constituted a special authority for the overall development of his constituency, termed GADA (Gajwel Area Development Authority), shortly after assuming charge as the CM in June 2014, and appointed an IAS officer as special officer to lead the authority. Nearly Rs 900 crore special funds have been spent for the development of Gajwel since 2014.
“Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao has changed the face of Gajwel in the last nine years. Today, Gajwel is known as an education as well as health hub.
Gajwel has government institutions offering quality education for free from KG to PG level. Gajwel outer ring road is progressing fast. We have modern integrated markets selling vegetables and meat. A 50-bedded government hospital on par with the facilities of a corporate hospital was built at a cost of ₹22 crore in 2018. Recently, a 40-bed pediatric ward was built in Gajwel hospital for new born babies," said Vanteru Prathap Reddy, senior BRS leader and incharge for Gajwel constituency.
