Telangana seeks 4 more commissionerates

If the government responds positively, the state would have eight police commissionerates in all.

Hyderabad: Following reorganisation of districts, TS will have four more police commissionerates soon. Merging Peddapally and Mancherial police divisions, officials have recommended a Ramagundam police commissionerate.

Similarly, the DGP has recommended new police commissionerates for Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Siddipet towns. If the government responds positively, the state would have eight police commissionerates in all.

During a review meeting held at DGP’s office on Wednesday, home minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy said that there was scope for new recruitments in view of increase of districts, divisions and mandals.

DGP Anurag Sharma said that the state might require as many as 82 new police stations as the government proposed 118 new mandals apart from the need for 23 new circles and 22 new sub-divisions.

Following several meetings with senior officials and district SPs in the last few days, the DGP briefed the home minister on the requirement of personnel. Responding positively to the request, Mr Reddy said that TS stood top across the country in law and order.
