Telangana and AP get MNRE nod for solar plans

Centre plans to set up 100 GW plants across country by 2022.

Hyderabad: The Union ministry of new and renewable energy has cleared two solar power projects to be set up in Telangana state and five in AP. AP had sent in 11 applications for solar projects and TS six. The Centre plans on setting up 100 GW solar power capacity across the country, by 2022. India currently generates 12 GW of solar power.

The Power Grid Corporation of India provides the details of availability of space capacities in existing and planned substations for western, northern and southern India. Based on these details, MNRE allows state governments to set up power stations on land near the available capacity of substation and transmission system. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has been separately requested to prepare lists and maps of such intra transmission systems after consultation with the states. The Centre government has asked the TS and AP governments to prepare a blueprint for the setting up of solar power projects in future keeping the cost factor in place.
