New glitches unsettle COMED-K candidates; CET 2nd phase goes off smoothly
Bengaluru: The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) is gearing up for its Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) for admissions to the various professional courses in its member institutions. But many students who have applied for this examination, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 8, allege that the examination is being marred by technical glitches.
According to the students, many of them were unsettled by sudden, unexpected changes in their examination centres. Others allege that they were unable to download their hall tickets. Crowds of them rushed to the COMEDK office in Lavelle Road in the city to find a solution to their problems.
According to the students, the change in the examination centre is one of the major issues. "My examination centre has been changed from the city to Mangalore," complained a student, who was found trying to figure out a solution. Many candidates were running around attempting to find out why they could not download their hall tickets.
According to the COMEDK officials, the sudden change in the examination centre stems from the non-availability of afternoon classrooms in some of the examination centres. "This problem came to the knowledge of officials very late. That forced the officials to re-work on the seating arrangement," said a member of COMEDK.
The brighter side in the midst of all the complaints and confusion: COMEDK is all set to create history by going online. “For the first time, a consortium is holding an examination online. This will ensure total transparency in the admission and examination process,” an official announced proudly.

Sudden change in the examination centre
According to the COMEDK officials, in a few examination centres, other examinations are scheduled on Sunday afternoon. Many students have applied only for Physics, Chemistry and Biology (only medical) while others have applied for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology (Both medical and engineering). A few students have applied only for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Engineering only). Because of the afternoon timings, test centres have been re-arranged for a few students.
CET 2nd phase goes off smoothly
On Thursday, the Chemistry and Physics examinations of the CET were held. It was the second day of the exam. No malpractices or technical goof-ups were reported. Speaking to this newspaper, an officer from the KEA proudly informed that both the examinations were error- free.
For the first time, KEA published the question papers of all four subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology online. “It is being done for the reference of the students. The difficulty level of all question paper versions were the same. Soon we will publish the key answers too,” said an officer from KEA.
Meanwhile, KEA will hold examinations in Kannada for all those who have applied under Horanadu (outside) and Gadinadu (border area) category of Kannada students. This examination will be held only in Bengaluru city.
According to Prof. Ratnakar K G, HOD, Physics at BASE, in the Physics question paper, 16 questions were from I PU topics while 44 were from II PUC topics. “Due weightage has been given to I and II PU portions,” he commented.
