Bengaluru: Trial runs will begin from November 18 on parts of the Metro southern line that connects National College, Basavanagudi and Puttenahalli, said Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George here on Friday.

Inaugurating the Namma Metro app, he said, “The Metro Phase 1 will be ready by April next year. BMRCL will run trains at a frequency of 4 minutes during morning peak hours of 9.10 am to 9.58 am from Monday on the Purple line connecting Byappanahalli and Mysore Road. During the evening peak hours of 5 pm to 8 pm, the trains will run every six minutes.”

With over 1,300 requests for a Metro line to the airport, he said that his ministry would put forth a suggestion before the state government.

BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said that the Kempegowda Metro Station in Majestic will be completed in the next 55 days. A detailed project report for a route connecting Silk Board to KR Puram will also be submitted by BMRCL to the state cabinet soon, he said.

He said that Byappanahalli and Peenya depots will go solar. The Byappanahalli depot will have a capacity of 1,456 MW and will generate 5,983 units of power per day, while the Peenya depot will have a capacity of 1,154 MW and will generate 4,742 units of solar power per day.

App to track trains, feeder buses
Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George launched the ‘Namma Metro’ app, to help commuters explore metro services, at the Kempegowda Metro Station here on Friday.

The android application, developed in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, will provide information ranging train timings to availability of feeder buses at various stations. It will also display Namma Metro line map, distance between various stations and transit points.

The app also has an option save history of the recent trips made by users and frequently travelled places. The app will get upgraded to incorporate additional features and if BMRCL network gets extended, a BMRCL spokesperson said.
