Hyderabad: SCCL staffers can step down for kin

Some changes have been made in eligibility criteria in the scheme now compared to what it was in prior to 2002.

Hyderabad: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited on Friday decided to revive the “dependent employment scheme” in its jurisdiction.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised during electioneering to revive the scheme that was stopped in 2002.

Recently, Mr Rao had assured Singareni employees that their long-cherished dream of reviving the dependent employment scheme would be a reality soon.

SCCL CMD N. Sridhar said the SCCL Board has given green signal for dependent employment scheme in tune with the directions of the CM.

As per the Board’s decision, those presently working in SCCL should have completed 48 years as on Dasara i.e. October 11, 2016 but not crossed 59 years, are eligible to step down facilitating employment to either “son, son-in-law or younger brother” aged between 18 years and 35 years.

Some changes have been made in eligibility criteria in the scheme now compared to what it was in prior to 2002.

However, the release issued by SCCL does not mention women as eligible for dependent employment scheme.

SCCL general manager J. Nagaiah said the Mining Act does the company to recruit women to work in underground mines.
