Saidabad locals protest against liquor shop

The protest was led by Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Yakutpura AIMIM legislator, and local corporators, including Ms Sameena Begum.

HYDERABAD: Residents of Kurmaguda in Saidabad staged a protest against opening of a new liquor shop on the main road, citing nuisance to the locality.

The protest was led by Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Yakutpura AIMIM legislator, and local corporators, including Ms Sameena Begum.

“Already there is a liquor shop on the opposite side of the road. What is the need for a liquor shop on a stretch which connects several localities,” said Ms Begum. She said that the Kurmaguda is a communally sensitive area and the authorities are allotting liquor shops without proper verification or advice from the police. “Today, the liquor shop was closed after a police intervention,” she said.

A few days ago, Mr Ahmed Balala, AIMIM Malakpet legislator, had staged a protest against opening of a liquor shop in the area, citing nuisance to the public.
