Telangana wakf to move Supreme Court against Hyderabad HC

The Wakf Board has been claiming rights over 90 acre of land near Hitec City.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court against an order passed by the Hyderabad High Court with regard to its land in Guttala Begumpet near Hitec City.

The Wakf Board has been claiming rights over 90 acre of land near Hitec City which is worth about Rs 400 crore, stating that it was Wakf property and a legal litigation is on between some private parties and the Board with regard to title over the land since 2002.

The High Court had dismissed earlier round of claims by private parties directing them to approach the Wakf tribunal. As the tribunal and the High Court ruled against the private parties, they had moved the Supreme Court in 2015.

However, recently the High Court allowed a review petition by the private parties upholding their claim over the land. In this backdrop, the Wakf Board has moved the Supreme Court and the matter will come up for hearing on Friday. Officials said that the Board had engaged additional solicitor general of India to appear in the case.
