4 held as DMK, DMDK men clash

The events followed in the wake of the politician's son being thrashed by the group.

Chennai: Like a scene straight out of a potboiler, a local politico who is from DMK, attacked his rival party members, besides vandalising their property. The events followed in the wake of the politician's son being thrashed by the group because he had assaulted their leader earlier during a negotiation. The DMK politician's bid to establish supremacy in the neighbourhood of Guduvancheri subsequently landed him and three others in jail while his son who sustained injuries is being treated in a hospital.

It all began when Tamilamuthan (45), husband of Malarvizhi (40), who is a Kundrathur Panchayat union councilor, objected to the surveying of an open space belonging to Tiruvalluvar Transport Corporation (TTC) employees housing society in TTC Nagar, Aathanur, in Guduvacheri, on Sunday morning. Tamilamuthan asserted that his wife being a Panchayat union councilor should have been kept in the loop.

Muthiah, a DMDK man, who represented the society, maintained that the land belongs to the society and those entitled to know about the proceedings of the land-survey were already been intimated. As talks were underway, Tamilamuthan's son Surya leaped forward and assaulted Muthiah in full public view. Elders intervened and brokered peace.

A few hours later, Surya came alone to play cricket on that playground and was confronted by Muthiah's son Prabhu and three friends - Gopi, Baskaran and Milton. The quartet whisked him away from the ground and gave him a sound thrashing in a desolate spot.

Prabhu who was subsequently bailed out by the other denizens of TTC nagar was later admitted to a private hospital in Potheri for his injuries. Enraged by the development, Tamilamuthan and his relatives, Tamilselvan, and Kalaiselvan, vandalised the property of Muthiah and other representatives of the society, on Monday. After the cops intervened, the DMK trio was placed under restraint, a case was registered and they were arrested. Based on Tamilamuthan's complaint, a counter complaint had been registered on charges of wrongful restraint and causing hurt. A police posse has been posted to prevent the issue from escalating.
