Former mayor Sampath Raj and MLA Narayanaswamy were present during the interaction.

Bengaluru: Rizwan Arshad, the Congress candidate for Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency has promised to work for the betterment of the city by addressing problems related to basic infrastructure.

Interacting with citizens in CV Raman Nagar which is part of his constituency on Thursday, Mr Arshad said he has a vision for Bengaluru city and his first priority would be to fix problems pertaining to traffic congestion, pollution and other infrastructure issues. He would implement the solutions in coordination with the civic agencies concerned and resident welfare associations, he said.

The JD(S)-Congress coalition government is spending crores of rupees on decongesting the city by expediting the metro rail, flyover projects and the elevated corridor project. Since he has experience as a member of the Legislative Council, it would be easy for him to be a representative in Lok Sabha, if elected, he said. Mr Rizwan also referred to his party manifesto and said it focused on improving infrastructure in fast growing cities like Bengaluru, known as the 'IT capital' of the country. A lot of funds are available with the Union government which need to be brought to Bengaluru to improve the city. Suggestions from residents welfare associations and common people would be obtained before taking up any project. Two of the pressing needs of the city are the preservation of water bodies and effective solid waste management, Mr Arshad said.
