MK Raghavan sees plot by CPM

CPM leader Elamaram Kareem said it had proved that the Congress was using “black money” for election.

Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF Kozhikode district committee on Thursday sought action against MP M. K. Raghavan after a private television channel on Wednesday aired visuals of 15 MPs seeking reelection including Mr Raghavan claiming to be demanding money for election expenses, including liquor for influencing voters.

CPM leader Elamaram Kareem said it had proved that the Congress was using “black money” for election.

Responding to the allegations, Mr Raghavan lashed out at the CPM for conspiring against him. He burst into tears while speaking to the media and said the truth behind the sting operation video would come out someday.

“CPM has become a party that will go to any extent to win the election. I have not faced a more severe insult in my political life. But I cannot commit suicide,” he said.

In the controversial sting operation by a Hindi TV channel, it said, its reporters approached him posing as a group planning to build a five-star hotel in Kozhikode and promised to donate `5 crore to election fund if land dealings go through smoothly.

Mr Raghavan is seen speaking in detail about election expenses that he had spent `20 crore in 2014. “I am going to initiate legal action against the television channel that aired this fabricated news. If these visuals are proved, I am also ready to end my political life,” he said.

“Everyone knows me here for years, and I strongly believe that people of Kozhikode will not judge me by this video.”
