Congress Six Guarantees To Get Huge Allocations In Telangana State Budget 2024-25
Hyderabad: A large portion of the State Budget 2024-25 will be allocated for the implementation of Congress's Six Guarantees, sources said on Friday.
The state government directed the departments concerned to submit Budget proposals by January 20.
The finance department has initiated the exercise to draft the Budget 2024-25 by asking all departments to submit the proposals online, indicating the estimated expenditure for Six Guarantees.
The departments have been asked to utilise the data of beneficiaries of welfare schemes who were selected based on annual income limit of Rs 2 lakh in urban areas and Rs 1.5 lakh in rural areas to arrive at the estimated expenditure.
The Congress government has decided to take ration cards as prime eligibility criteria for selection of beneficiaries. The ration cards were issued during the previous BRS regime by taking the above income limits into consideration.
The Congress government has invited applications from people to avail these schemes by launching the Praja Palana programme on December 28 and was scheduled to end on Saturday. Since they will be selected based on ration cards, the number of beneficiaries for the Congress guarantees would be more or less the same.
Based on this, officials were asked to prepare expenditure estimates for now. When new ration cards are issued, the expenditure estimates will be revised in the supplementary budget.
Official sources said the finance department officials studied the Karnataka Budget for 2023-24 where the Congress government was implementing Five Guarantees. The Karnataka government presented the budget for Rs 3.27 lakh crore for 2023-24 in which Rs 52,000 crore was earmarked for five guarantees.
The women development and child welfare department has been asked to submit proposals on the Maha Lakshmi scheme, agriculture department on Rythu Bharosa, panchayat raj and rural development department on Cheyutha pensions, housing department on Indiramma houses, welfare departments of BCs, SCs, STs and Minorities on Yuva Vikasam for Vidya Bharosa cards and school education department on setting up international schools.
