GHMC sees small rise in its budget

The budget covers major infrastructure works estimated at a total cost of Rs 3,026 crore.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has unveiled its budget for financial year 2017-18 with an outlay of Rs 5,643 crore, as approved by the standing committee. This is a minor increase of Rs 43 crore compared to the current financial year (2016-17), while previous budgets used to see a whopping increase of between Rs 700 and Rs 900 crore.

The budget covers major infrastructure works estimated at a total cost of Rs 3,026 crore. The main components of capital expenditure include road infrastructure, flyovers, road over bridges, water supply and sewerage system, multi modal transport system, storm water drains, streetlights and land improvements besides other amenities and services.

Also, based on a comprehensive transportation study, a strategic road development programme (SRDP) is under implementation stage, which has elements like skyways, major corridors, roads and grade separators.

“Sanitation has been given prime importance Other major components of revenue expenditure are streetlights, infrastructure maintenance, community development and malaria eradication. Special thrust would be on creating modern public convenience facilities, modern markets and graveyards developments,” said GHMC commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy.

The budget would be placed before the general body of the corporation for approval. After its ratification, it would be sent to the state government for approval.
