Hyderabad: November begins on cold note, winter far way

A layer of mist early in the morning, and persistent blanket of haze were observed.

Hyderabad: The minimum temperature fell to 15.6º Centigrade on Thursday morning, 3ºC below normal for this time of the month. A layer of mist early in the morning, and a persistent blanket of haze were observed throughout the day. These were said to be the hallmarks of winter.

“November has started on a cold note but we can’t attribute it to winter. The official winter season begins in mid-December and extends to February. The mist is a winter component, while the layer of haze remains in the upper strata of the atmosphere through the day,” said Mr Y.K. Reddy, director, India Meteorological Bureau, Hyderabad. Haze is a layer of fine suspended particles. Mist occurs due to presence of water droplets in the air.

Met officials said the wind pattern has changed and easterly to north-easterly winds are blowing over the region as a result of the north-east monsoon. The forecast for north Telangana state for Friday and Saturday was that minimum temperatures could be up to 5º C below normal at isolated places in Adilabad, Kothagudem, Khammam and Medak districts.
