KUWJ slams unruly lawyers

C Naryanan said for the last three months the journalists had not been allowed to enter the court and report the proceedings.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KUWJ has said that the argument of a section of lawyers that journalists were blocked at the Ernakulam because of the “detailed coverage” of the silver jubilee function of the Kerala High Court is ridiculous. In a statement , KUWJ general secretary C Naryanan said for the last three months the journalists had not been allowed to enter the court and report the proceedings. Despite the assurances given by the chief minister, chief justice and registrar, a section of lawyers had not lifted the ban on mediaperons.

He said the journalists who had entered the court premises following the assurance given by chief justice, were also assaulted. They were able to come out of the court premises only with police protection, he added. KUWJ said the if journalists could not cover the function of Chief Justice of India in connection with the commemoration of silver jubilee of the High Court, the fault lied with the lawyers. Senior lawyers like Shivan Madathil who were mocking at the media for not covering CJI function should actually understand that there was a set of unruly lawyers in their fraternity who were responsible for the present developments.

Are the lawyers who have prevented the media from covering court proceedings for the past three months or the mediaperson who on the assurance given by the chief justice, chief minister and registrar went to discharge their official responsibility responsible for the present situation? KUWJ asked.
