Women to Run Toll Plazas in MP, Poor to Get Food at Rs 5

Bhopal: For the first time in the country, women are going to operate toll plazas in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday announced that the operation of three toll plazas in the state would be handed over to the women self-help groups (SHGs).

An MoU (memorandum of understanding) was on Saturday signed with the SHGs in this regard.

“It is happening for the first time in the country that women have been given the responsibility of operating the toll plazas”, the chief minister said.

He said that operating toll plazas is a very challenging job.

Taking responsibility for operating toll plazas by the women SHGs is a big example of women empowerment, he said.

“I have full faith that women will be successful in their resolution and will run the toll plazas efficiently”, he added.

As per the MoU, the women SHGs will get 30 percent of revenue collected from these three toll plazas.

The toll plazas proposed to be run by the women SHGs include Kayatha toll-plaza on Ujjain-Maksi road in Ujjain district, Chachakhedi toll-plaza in Shajapur Dupada Nalkheda road in Agar district and Sanjay Nagar toll-plaza on Malhera Chandla road of Chhatarpur district.

In another development, Mr Chouhan on Saturday announced to halve the price of cheap meals for the poor under the “Deendayal Rosoi Yojana’ from Rs 10 to Rs five.

He announced that the scheme, launched in 2017, would be extended to notified area councils having a population of more than 20,000 people.
