CM sets new goals on TS anniversary,

Hyderabad: Speaking on Telangana’s fifth Formation Day, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao called upon the people of the state to join hands with the government in putting an end to corruption and to establish the highest standards in transparent administration.

While addressing the gathering at Public Gardens on Sunday after hoisting the national flag, he said though five years was a small period in a state’s history, it was an invaluable one considering the good results.

The Chief Minister said that after redefining the functioning of local bodies, the new Panchayat Raj Act was enacted and he was contemplating enacting a new Municipal Act, and has also decided to have a re-look at the Revenue Act.

“I request people’s large-scale participation for successful implementation of the new Panchayat Raj, new Municipal and new Revenue Acts. People for their day-to-day requirements have to connect with these three departments.

“If all of us together can drive away corruption from these three departments with firm determination then we will be able to infuse confidence and respect among people on administrative systems and institutions.”

The state was formed amidst many a doubt and misconception, Mr Rao said, but in a very short time it has proved all of them baseless.

“Tremendous maturity and expertise were exhibited in governance and administration without giving any scope for discordance. Without any undesirable consequences and maintaining perfect law and order the state is marching ahead on a progressive path,” Mr Rao said.

He claimed that the results of the Assembly elections reflect the government's performance and to what extent people were impressed by it.

“In every election from Panchayat to Parlia-ment, every time, the victory was on our side and people gave us an unprecedented mandate.”

The Chief Minister narrated the progress attained by the state in various sectors including irrigation, power, agriculture and in welfare programmes.

He paid tributes at the Telangana Martyrs' Memorial in Gun Park before proceeding to the Public Gardens where he unfurled the national flag and delivered his address.

The Formation Day celebration was a simple affair due to the extended election code of conduct in the state, up to June 8, on account of elections to rural local bodies, and also the continuing heat wave, which has forced schools to now reopen later, on June 12.
