Single-window agency to speed up project approvals: George

Tenders were floated for skywalks at 41 different places, but response came only for 10.

Bengaluru: To speed up approvals for the construction of skywalks, bus shelters and public toilets, the state government is contemplating a single window system Inaugurating skywalks in front of Forum Mall near Adugodi, near Gopalan Mall on Mysuru Road and in front of Govardhan Theatre in Yeshwanthpur, City Development Minister K.J. George said on Monday that the single window agency is being considered as necessary approvals from different government agencies are taking a lot of time.

“Tenders were floated for skywalks at 41 different places, but response came only for 10. The government has decided to reduce the ground rent for companies that come forward to take up the work,” he said.

Following a request from former mayors, the public and NGOs, the zonal revision has been put on hold. Now, only property tax revision is applicable. The BBMP, which was collecting Rs 1,200 crore till last year, has increased it to Rs 2,000 crore with efforts from revenue officials, he said.

Earlier, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that single window agency will help expedite skywalk projects. Skywalks have been built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore each. “The government has to take up security measures and install CCTV cameras and security guard at these skywalks,” said one of the users.
