Around 12 boys bunked class and were swimming in the sea near Subhash Chandra Bose statue when they suddenly realised that three were missing.

The police were alerted who with the help of fishermen in the area began a search for them.

Meanwhile, fishermen in Neelankarai, Shastri Nagar and Thoriapakkam alerted the police when they saw bodies in the sea on Saturday. The police identified the bodies and sent them to Royapettah Government hospital for post-mortem.

The Marina police have asked the fishermen to end the search and have registered a case. “We ask people to stay safe and not swim deep into the sea but many, especially school and college boys do not adhere to it. We request visitors to be cautious,” a police officer at the Marina police station said.
