Birsa Munda\'s 149th Birth Anniversary Celebrations to be a National Event

Visakhapatnam: The 149th birth anniversary celebrations of Adivasi freedom fighter Birsa Munda to be held at Paderu in ASR district on November 14 and November 15, will be a national event, said leaders of Andhra Pradesh Adivasi Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Adivasi unions and associations on Sunday.

In the state-level preparatory meeting held on Sunday at the Girijana Bhavan in Visakhapatnam, JAC convener Rama Rao Dora said around 500 tribal representatives from different states are participating in the celebrations.

The indigenous tribal groups from respective states are participating with their traditional cultural dance troupe. The two-part ceremony will include implementation of the 5th Schedule powers, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the new Forest Conservation Amendment Act, Separate Column for tribals in the census, inclusion of other castes in the ST list, along with issues of national impact.

He said that there will be discussions on the issues of repeal of GO No3, 1/70 Land Transfer Regulation Act, PESA and Samatha Judgment. The JAC also deliberated on preparations for a united movement on common issues at the national level.
