Telangana: Probe Tricolour row, SP told

The Hyderabad HC on Friday directed the Ranga Reddy district administration and GHMC to remove encroachments.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed the Nalgonda SP to submit a report about allegations that some police officers prevented a ward councillor of Suryapet Municipality from hoisting the National Flag on August 15.

Justice Challa Kodandaram was dealing with a petition on Friday by one Mohammed Shaheen Begum, a ward councillor, alleging that the deputy police superintendent, four circle inspectors and a sub inspector prevented her from hoisting the National Flag at the Suryapet municipal office.

The petitioner urged the court to declare that the right to fly the National Flag freely with due respect is a fundamental right of every citizen as per the Article 19(1)(A) of the Constitution.

She submitted that hoisting the National Flag is an expression of her allegiance to the nation and prevention of it by the police or any other person would amount to violation of Article 51A of the Constitution and the Flag Code of India.

Ms Shaheen Begum said that although she had filed a complaint with the SP against the Suryapet DSP and five police officers who prevented her from hoisting the flag no action was taken against them.

She requested the court to direct the DGP and the SP to register a case against the police officers for infringing on her fundamental right to hoist the National Flag.

‘Clear lake of encroachments’
The Hyderabad HC on Friday directed the Ranga Reddy district administration and GHMC to remove encroachments from the full tank level (FTL) of Kapra Lake (Oora Cheruvu) in Medchal district as per the report submitted by court’s Registrar (judicial).

A division bench comprising Acting CJ Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a contempt case by Save Our Urban Lakes seeking punishment for the authorities responsible for failing to implement HC orders issued earlier in a PIL demanding protection of the lake.

The bench had earlier directed its Registrar (judicial) to visit the lake, identify its FTL and submit a report to the court, and accordingly the Registrar submitted his report.

Uma Devi was dealing with petitions by Junglee Games India Pvt Ltd, Play Games 24x7 Pvt Ltd and Head Infotech (India) Pvt Ltd challenging an Ordinance issued by the state government bringing “Online Rummy” under the Gaming Act by amending the Telangana Gaming Act, 1974.
