Bengaluru: Poor work? Road caves in over Metro station

The incident took place on Saturday night.

Bengaluru: It's just been a day since the underground stretch of the Metro Rail east-west corridor was thrown open to the public, but a disaster struck just above the Kempegowda station, where a parked truck sank into the road, raising questions over the quality of construction being carried out by Metro contractors.

The incident took place on Saturday night, when BMRCL officials were still celebrating the grand success of the newly inaugurated Metro line. What angered the people was lack of response from the officials, who repaired the road and restored that part of the road for traffic only on Sunday evening.

BMRCL officials told Deccan Chronicle that the truck sank into the road after it hit a drain some 60 feet away from the Majestic Metro station. “It is not BMRCL’s fault and it did not damage the road, but only a pavement slab,” they said.

However, a commuter said, “The underground station is right under the spot where the truck caved in. I am sure the low quality of work caused the incident.”
