Kerala: Maoists swear revenge action

Statement alleges conspiracy between top cops and Chief Minister.

KALPETTA: The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has warned of avenging the killing of two cadres by the police in the Nilambur forests last week. A statement that was dropped in the news box of Wayanad Press Club in the name of CPI (Maoist) was the first reaction of the outfit after the encounter killing of the two leaders, Kuppu Devaraj and Ajitha. “The blood oozed out in Karulayi will be the beginning of ‘your’ destruction. The blood of revolutionaries is valuable and we will not allow it go waste,” the release said.

The killing was part of a conspiracy between top cops and chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to assist multi-nationals, corporate groups, anti-social elements and the corrupt forces, the statement said. The killing resulted from the stiff resistance staged by Maoists against the attempts to destroy the Western Ghats, killing of rivers, draining out the water resources and moves to implement the anti-people Athirappalli power project and airport projects, it said.

Meanwhile, RMPI state secretary N Venu told reporters that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had given silent permission for the killing of Maoists in the jungle. Without his knowledge such things could not have happened, Mr Venu said. If the state government orders a magisterial inquiry, the truth would be exposed, he added. A meeting of human rights organisations and other activists held here on Tuesday had decided to form a broad platform of activists at the national-level to fight for justice in connection with the Maoist killings.

The convention also formed a 30-member committee with Grow Vasu and advocate Thushar Nirmal Saradhi as chairman and convener respectively. The political parties and organizations including RMPI, Janakeeya Manushyavakasha Prasthanam, Solidarity and National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) and RMPI are part of the broad platform.
