Plans to link airport with Krishna Canal

17-km stretch to be added to 26-km corridor.

Vijayawada: The Amaravati Metro, with its changed dynamics, has started working on a revised plan to connect Gannavaram airport and Krishna Canal (KC Canal) junction.

With the changed plans, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) has invited RFP for consultants to prepare DPR, for the proposed four corridors in the first phase.

The AMRC has stated that the revised proposal to connect Gannavaram airport and KC Canal junction will reduce the time to reach the Guntur district. It will also free the air travellers from their dependence on taxis and the hassles involved.

As per the new proposal of AMRC, another 17 km would be added to the proposed 26 km corridor. “We are planning to connect Gannavaram airport to KC Canal junction. We want the proposal to be prepared like that,” Mr. N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy, managing director, AMRC, told this correspondent.

As per the earlier proposals of AMRC, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) invited open e-tenders on November 28, last year for the Rs 1,800 crore work on construction of Pundit Nehru Bus Stand (PNBS)-Nidamanuru corridor and PNBS-Penamaluru corridor for a stretch of 13 kilometers and 12 kilometers respectively.

The work included the PEB roof entry/exit structure design and construction, architectural finishing and plumbing works of 13 elevated stations in the first corridor and 11 elevated stations in the second corridor.

The DMRC invited tenders for the PNBS-Penamalur corridor works worth Rs 847 crore and the PNBS-Nidamanur corridor work worth Rs 801 crore, Mr Reddy said.
