Bengaluru: Director General of Police, Internal Security Division (ISD), Neelmani Raju of the 1983 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) is likely to return to the Centre.
According to unconfirmed sources, Ms Raju, who is the second senior-most IPS officer in Karnataka, is likely to be posted as Director General in an available vacancy in one of the Central Police Organisations, including the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi.
She had written to the state government earlier this month seeking nod for her Central deputation. She had returned to the state last year after a long tenure with the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
If Ms Raju returns to Delhi, then the senior most Additional Director General of Police, Communications, Logistics & Modernisation Asit Mohan Prasad, of 1985 batch of IPS, will be promoted to the rank of DGP in the vacant post. Mr Prasad is the former Intelligence chief of Karnataka and has also served at the Centre, in the IB.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the state has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to sanction two more cadre DGP posts to Karnataka. “It has been a long-standing request of the state government to the Centre,” said an official source.
At present, the state has five DGPs including the newly appointed Director General & Inspector General of Police Rupak Kumar Dutta. As per the All India Civil Services (cadre) Rules for every cadre post of DGP sanctioned by the MHA the states can create an ex-cadre post.
There are only two cadre posts of DGPs in Karnataka – DG&IGP and Commandant General, Home guards, Fire & Emergency Services. DGP, ISD, DGP, Criminal Investigation Department and DGP, Prisons are ex-cadre posts.
