The court in its verdict pronounced on December 28, 2018 held Sai Babu guilty of not filing the return despite having taxable income.

Hyderabad: Film producer Yelamanchili Sai Babu was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Economic Offences Court, Nampally, for not filing income-tax returns. A complaint against Sai Babu, who last produced a devotional film, Sri Rama Rajyam in 2011, was filed by income tax officials for defaulting on tax for the financial year 2012-13.

The court in its verdict pronounced on December 28, 2018 held Sai Babu guilty of not filing the return despite having taxable income. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Sai Babu and directed that in the event of non-payment of the fine, he shall undergo a further imprisonment of 15 days.

However, the counsel representing Sai Babu can file a petition in the court seeking permission to pay the tax amount and get the sentence waived.
