Bengaluru: Drunk friend abuses TV actor, let off after stern warning

Incident happened at a bar where a group of friends, including the actress, had gone.

BENGALURU: A Kannada TV serial actress and her friends had an ugly spat at the upscale Skyye bar in UB City on Sunday night and reached a compromise later at the police station.

The police took an undertaking from her friend, who had allegedly hurled filthy abuses and misbehaved with her. The alleged incident took place when a group of 6-7 friends including the actress had gone to the bar. The problem started when one of them, Darshan, who is said to be the son of a reputed builder, allegedly got drunk.

He reportedly started hurling filthy abuses at the actress, but the other friends objected. When he did not stop, they allegedly assaulted him. As the situation was getting worse, the bar staff forced them out of the bar, sources said.

“The fight did not stop even after they came down. They also started beating up each other abusing each other. Sensing that the situation was getting out of hand, one of them called the police and informed them about the incident. Soon, a Hoysala patrolling vehicle was rushed to the spot and they were brought to the police station. The actress alleged that her friend Darshan misbehaved with her and insulted her in the presence of others. She gave a complaint requesting us to warn him,” an official said.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a non-cognisable case and waited till the early hours of Monday to question Darshan, as he was still in an inebriated state.

ACP of the Cubbon Park subdivision questioned all those connected with the incident. Later, the friends arrived at a compromise, while Darshan was asked to give an undertaking, apologising the actress and other friends and promising that he would not involve in such acts in the future, the official said. DCP (Central) Dr Chandragupta said that the police had taken action as per the request of the complainant.

“She wanted an apology from her friend and also wanted the police to warn him. We have done it and have received an undertaking from her friend. If she files any complaint with other allegations, we will initiate action accordingly,” he said.

The Cubbon Park police, who took the complaint, initiated action as per Section 92 (punishment of certain street offences and nuisance) of the Karnataka Police Act.
