Clicking on That Fraud Traffic Challan Link Could Empty Your Bank Account

Traffic Police warn against fraudulent traffic challan links

Cyber criminals who are on the prowl to loot the public have come up ith yet another new way to loot people. This time it is by sending alerts from 'transport department', informing the public of pending traffic challans and directing them to click on a link and clearing pending challans. Experts have warned the public to be cautious of such links.

“If you receive links for traffic challans, don’t click on them. On clicking the links for paying pending challans, it might give the fraudsters access to your bank accounts and credentials, resulting in transferring funds from your accounts," they said.

DCP Traffic I, Hyderabad City Rahul Hegde says it is usually the traffic wing that sends reminders to people to clear pending challans on their vehicles. Even if they receive reminders from other sources, they can always verify by first going to the official website to clear traffic challans. “There you can check your pending challans and also make payment securely,” he said.

Cybercrime police said this could be another way to loot the public and only being cautious can save people from losing their money. They can be identified easily as they come from unknown sources. While confirming that there are no complaints related to this type of fraud so far in Telangana, cops opined that it could also be due to the less amount lost in the fraud in the form of clearing pending traffic challans.

“However smaller the amount is, people can report the loss. Even if there is no loss also, people can report such malicious messages and links, so that others can be saved from the fraud,” they opined.
