Video facility for all witnesses from home in Cyberabad

The CCTV recordings can provide a real-time record of police stations.

Hyderabad: The victims of crime and witnesses can now record their statements from home or the scene of offence using a customised video application in Cyberabad commissionerate.

DGP Anurag Sharma launched this first of its kind video conferencing facility in the country on Sunday. The DGP also inaugurated a CCTV camera project connecting 44 police stations. DGP said cameras will be installed in all areas of police stations and will be used to monitor them.

The CCTV recordings can provide a real-time record of police stations. Citing a recent incident at the KPHB police station when three youths including a girl damaged furniture, he said in such incidents guilt can be clearly established. “These facilities will avoid delays by recording the statements of victims and witnesses from their locations,” he added.

The DGP said the facility will be extended across the state. The Internet-based conferencing facility provided by the NIC can be connected from a particular location to any user even while he is travelling. Audio and video files and documents can be shared using the conferencing facility.
