Kozhikode: Farook College suspended Malayalam department assistant professor Dr P. Abdul Asees (Dr Asees Tharuvana), who was arrested over rape allegation by a Dalit student from the college.
According to a press release issued by the principal, the teacher was suspended by the college manager based on news reports which says Feroke police registered case against him.
“The teacher was on a two-year leave starting from July, 2015. The college had no role in this unfortunate incident,” the release added. Meanwhile, the Yuva Morcha organised protest march to Farook College. The march was prevented by the police in front of the college.
It was early on Sunday morning that Dr Asees Tharuvana surrendered before the police after he was accused of raping his degree student who was a Dalit. According to the 20-year-old student, the teacher raped her at his staff quarters last year.
Later, the same was repeated in March, April by threatening and promising to marry her, the complainant alleged. The assistant professor is married and has kids. According to Surendran L., ACP, Kozhikode South, who is probing the case, sections of IPC 376 (rape) and the SC and ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act has been slapped against Dr Asees Tharuvana.
