Chhattisgarh: Teacher steals sari to see wife win beauty pageant

The shop owners reported the matter to the police.

Bhopal: Dream of a teacher in a Chhattisgarh district to see her wife win a beauty pageant has landed him along with his spouse and cousin in jail.

Chhattisgarh police has cracked a bizarre theft case in a reputed showroom in district headquarters town of Bilashpur by arresting a teacher, his wife and his cousin, the investigating officer said.

According to the police, Srikant Gupta, 32, a teacher serving in a state government-run school in Sarkanda in Bilashpur district, decided to steal two designer saris from a local mall, for his wife, Pramila, 26, to wear them to take part in the “Sawan Sundari” competition, a beauty contest organised in the district headquarters town every monsoon season.

He had resorted to theft of the costly saris when he found that the cost of the wears was beyond his reach. Pramila had walked on the ramp donning the saris, as part of the beauty pageant. However, one of the audiences at the event had noticed the “stolen” sari and alerted the mall owner about it. The shop owners reported the matter to the police.
