Robbery case solved within 24 hrs, 5 held

HYDERABAD: The Dundigal police arrested five persons including three who had waylaid a car and stolen ₹40 lakh belonging to an auto garage owner, within 24 hours of receiving a complaint.

Police recovered ₹38.92 lakhs following the arrest of Sairam, Raju and Shivaram, who had snatched the bag, and Mallesh, driver, and Anil Kumar, a former employee of the complainant G. Mallikarjun of Dundigal. The trio had purchased a high-end mobile phone with the stolen money, which the police seized.

Dundigal ACP Venkat Reddy said that Mallikarjun, an auto garage owner at Bowrampet, had filed a complaint at 6 am on June 24 that three unidentified persons on a motorcycle had intercepted his driver Mallesh and accountant M. Sairam near a function hall, assaulted them and fled with a bag containing ₹40 lakhs kept on the rear seat of his car that was to be handed over to his friend Raju in Hitec City.

The ACP said a team led by inspector Y. Ramakrishna suspected an inside hand and collected information about Mallikarjun’s ex-employees. Mallikarjun’s former accountant Anil Kumar confessed to his involvement and said Mallesh had given him detailed information about their trip.

“Based on Anil Kumar’s confession we nabbed Mallesh, Raju (not related to the person who was to receive the cash), Shivram and Sairam (not the accountant) on Sunday and recovered ₹38.92 lakh and a mobile phone ₹1.3 lakh and the bike used in the robbery,” the ACP said.
